Irish Supercar Championship Announce 2017 Title Sponsor and Young Driver Initiative

We are delighted to announce that PIRELLI will be the title sponsor of the Supercar Championship  for the 2017 and 2018 as part of a two year partnership. With this in mind we have renamed the championship the Irish Supercar Championship powered by Pirelli.

The class of driving throughout the 2016 championship has heightened the interest for the upcoming season. We will have new drivers join the grid in 2017, many who have already purchased Supercars and begun testing. As the class grows in strength and stature we are looking at a rise in grid numbers for what is set to be a very competitive season in 2017.

The provisional dates for the 2017 championship have also been released with the addition of two extra championship races. The 2017 Irish Supercar Championship powered by Pirelli will be adding Brands Hatch to it’s championship counting rounds. The total counting rounds will be 14 with the best 12 to count so while we add a weekend we give a bit more room should a driver miss an event. We have also added the iconic Brands Hatch circuit to our dates which will see the Irish Supercar Championship back at the iconic circuit for it’s final championship round.

The pace on the Supercar grid has been shown throughout the year. It is with this that we are delighted to announce the ASK Young Driver Initiative in partnership with the Ginetta Junior Ireland Championship. ASK Racing have always understand the importance of supporting young drivers and helping them grow through the ranks in Irish Motorsport. The young driver initiative will see the winner of the Ginetta Junior Ireland Championship in 2017, join the Irish Supercar Championship in their final championship round at the iconic Brands Hatch circuit.

ASK Racing has been at the forefront of motorsport in Ireland for many years and has been a supporter of the Ginetta Junior Championship since it began in Ireland in 2010. The Irish Supercar Championship, with the support of ASK Racing, want to encourage young drivers to continue in Irish motorsport and it is with this in mind that we have launched our Young Driver Initiative.

As part of the initiative the top three drivers from the Ginetta Junior Championship will be offered a test drive in the Irish Supercars.  Following from this, the Championship winner of the Ginetta Junior Championship in 2017 will join the Irish Supercar grid in their final round at the historic Brands Hatch Circuit at the B.R.S.C.C Formula ford festival in October 2017. This initiative will give young drivers eligible for the Sexton Trophy the platform to prove their true potential in motorsport and help to launch their racing careers in Gt cars.
