Irish supercar championship powered by Pirelli, Mondello Park rounds 3&4:
Last weekend the Irish supercar championship headed to Mondello Park which would host rounds 3&4 of the championship. Mondello Park is known to be an extremely technical circuit, last weekend drivers raced the track backwards!
at 10 AM on sunday morning, the cars headed out on track. The sun was shining despite what all weather predictions suggested may happen. Gary Corcoran took overall Pole position for both of the Irish Supercar races, Joined on the front row by Charlie Linnane. Philip jones would line up third on the grid followed alongside by Ginetta Junior Ireland graduate Robbie Parks, the first of the Class 2 cars. Paul Parr would line up 5th on the grid for both races with ASK Racing’s Alan Kessie alongside. Vinny O’ Reilly would complete the grid.
Race one kicked off, Gary Corcoran got a good start and held the lead from lights to flag to take his first victory of the year. Philip Jones finished second followed by Charlie Linnane in third. Robbie Parks finished 4th taking 1st place in the class 2 championship, followed by Alan Kessie, Vinny O’ Reilly and Paul Parr who had to retire due to an unfortunate mechanical gremlin.
Race two started and once again it was Gary Corcoran who took a lights to flag victory, followed by Philip Jones in second.
